Karnak, also known as Ipet-Sut, was a significant site in ancient Egypt, located on the east bank of Thebes (modern Luxor). It was home to numerous temples, including the Great Temple of Amun, where the cult of the god Amun of Thebes was conducted. The Great Temple of Amun was built on an east-west axis, mirroring the sun god's trajectory through the sky. It also had a north-south axis, orienting it towards Luxor Temple, a different version of Amun specific to south Luxor. The city was linked by a processional way lined with sphinxes, used in the Opet Festival. The temples include the Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 columns, and the Akh-menu, a temple dedicated to various deities.
